Psychology deals with the study of emotional responses and behavior of all living beings. There are various branches of knowledge within this vast field of psychology, and each of these branches has been a subject of continuous research. These research efforts are being documented in detail, and along with other relevant books, form an important source of information for trained psychologists to try and understand behavior and emotional patterns of different individuals. The psychologist will also be able to form a psychological theory on a particular case study with the help of these documented facts.

Now for a psychological theory to be of help in treating a person, all of the people involved with the treatment should work in tandem. With the combined knowledge and experience of these professionals, a psychological theory can be applied effectively and a solution to the particular social problem may be found.

You can see many criminal probes will employ a psychological theory. In this case, the psychologist will take all the information that is available on the case from the law enforcers and eyewitnesses, and develop a psychological theory that will give an idea about the criminal’s psychological profile. This profile will help anticipate the criminal’s next move, and the police can lay a trap. Here, the accuracy of the psychological theory depends entirely on the amount and accuracy of the information given; more the information, the better will the psychological theory be.

Other types of psychological theories include those that can be developed by referring to history. Since all of the historical events that are chronicled depict human behavior and responses to different circumstances, you can form a psychological theory about these emotional responses with respect to history. To reason out the cause of such events, you need not be a professional psychologist. All you will need to do is to correlate all of the information that you can gather about a particular event in history with your interpretation of human nature, and you will be able to form a psychological theory. Subsequently, you can review your approach in making such a psychological theory, and suitably modify it if required. When you develop a psychological theory in this manner, you can test your reasoning capabilities. Moreover, you will also be able to get a new perspective on the event in history as well as on the people who were involved in it.

While you are forming any psychological theory, you will have to keep in mind is that the field of psychology itself is now gradually beginning to uncover the various causes for human behavior. Further, you should also realize that psychology is a science through which you can try and understand human behavior that is marked by continuous change and you will need to make corresponding changes in your psychological theory alongside.
